At the point where the roof meets the outer walls of the house, a fascia and soffit boards are, creating a smoother appearance for the edge of the roof.
The fascia board is the long, straight board that runs along the lower edge of the roof. The fascia usually supports the lower edge of the bottom row of tiles and carries all the guttering. It’s purpose is to be a layer between the edge of the roof and the outdoors while protecting the ends of the roof rafters against water damage .
The soffit is usually the board that you see from street level. Part of the soffit is purely aesthetic, and if ventilated can also assist to help ventilate the attic. The air from the soffit cycles to the vents to draw heat and moisture away from the house, preventing condensation and decreasing the risk of timber decay. Soffit and fascia boards are available in UPVC as well as timber, an effective material for withstanding the degradation that comes from heat and moisture exposure.
In case soffit or the fascia develop rot or show different signs of damage, it’s important that you contact a roofer, thus preventing possibility of damaging your property by weather conditions.
